Showtime

On Sunday was Bryn's much-anticipated dance recital. She had missed the dress rehearsal for her class as she was in Florida, but we were able to attend the dress rehearsal of another kindergarten class that was performing the same routine to the same song. At the dress rehearsal, Bryn burst into tears before going out on stage; she said the routine was different and she didn't know any of the girls. Nevertheless, I think it was still helpful for Bryn to see the auditorium before the big day. Nama came up for Bryn's performance, and fortunately any jitters she had had from the dance rehearsal went by the wayside. In truth, I don't think any of the girls in Bryn's class knew the full routine despite weeks and weeks of practice. All of the girls were looking off to the side where they were able to mimic their teachers who were doing the routine behind the stage curtain!
Bryn had said that she didn't want to continue with dance classes after the performance, and I can't blame her as practice for the show had become very monotonous. But in the end she enjoyed being on stage and watching the older girls dance, and she now says she's interested in taking a ballet class (as opposed to a mixed ballet and tap class) with Ms. Marla, who teaches ballet to the pre-professional dancers. One such class is offered in the fall on Mondays at 4:15, so we'll see how Bryn feels after the summer. Whatever she decides, I'm very proud of her for sticking with it to the end and going out on stage before a cast of hundreds.
