The Jersey Shore

Bryn and Luke and I have done two day trips to the Jersey Shore in August. The first trip we made to Margate, NJ, which is just south of Atlantic City, in order to see Lucy the Elephant, a National Historic Landmark that is 8 stories high and 128 years old. You can go inside Lucy -- climb spiral stairs in her legs and look out onto the ocean through her porthole eyes and get yet another view after climbing another spiral staircase to her back. We met friends there -- the Bramens -- and had a casual lunch and spent time on the beach. Bryn gave herself a mud-like spa treatment, and the other two girls followed her lead while Luke played by himself with his digger.
A week later we went back to the shore -- this time to Avalon where the Bramens had rented a condo on the beach for the month of August. We played on the beach and then spent time in the pool that was part of the condominium complex. It was nice to have a home base for the day -- and access to a clean bathroom. But renting a place on the Jersey Shore in the summer is expensive, and we would just assume buy plane tix to St. Augustine, instead.
