Tyler Arboretum

Today the kids and I went, for the first time, to Tyler Arboretum in Media for their second annual tree house exhibit. It was a great activity -- 10 structures in all to explore. Some are simple, but one is shaped like a guitar on its side and has musical instruments inside. Another consists of cow bells suspended in a tree, each attached to yellow
ropes, so the kids can walk around the tree, pulling different ropes to ring bells. Still another provided a chest of dress up clothes, including bug costumes.
The arboretum isn't far from Ken's office, so he was able to sneak away and join us about halfway through our tour. The highlight was the insect abode, which is a platform accessed by a steep ladder, and from the platform you spy "pretend" insects on other trees and in the surrounding forest floor. (Ken carried Luke up and down the ladder.)
We found caterpillars, a very camouflaged walking stick, ants, lady bugs, butterfly, and more.

We enjoyed a picnic lunch, and with each outing, I'm gaining confidence in Luke's new potty training skills. :)

The arboretum was a great destination, and we'll definitely go back. They offer a one-day workshop in July for 3-year-olds in which they play in the stream and try to catch salamanders. I called today and left a message; I'm hoping to register both Luke and Bryn despite the advertised age. We also missed the "worm bin" in the vegetable garden, and we didn't get to two of the tree houses, or the pond, so there will be new things to see on our return trip.
