Nana and Papap came to visit the first week of August. Their timing was impeccable as I was a bit hobbled by a hurt foot, so we stayed relatively close to home the first full day that they were in town. We stopped at the kids' school so Bryn and Luke could show off their new classrooms.

From there we went to a diner in Germantown that was written up in Philadelphia Magazine for being kid-friendly -- the kid's menu is viewed through a view finder. But the highlight was the old trolley that sold ice cream in the same parking lot. The next day we went to the treehouse exhibit at Tyler Arboretum.

On this visit we went in the butterfly house, but we saw just as many butterflies outside. We also stopped by the pond where we saw turtles and lots of lilly pads -- but no frogs.

We put Nana to work while she was here -- she led a pinata-making class for me and one of our neighbors, Sara Slattery; she measured the bench in the mudroom and graciously agreed to make us a custom cushion; and perhaps most important from the kids' perspective, she repaired the inflatable Santa so he would stand upright. Thanks so much for all of the much-needed help!
