Last week Luke's Little Gym class put on a show for the parents to demonstrate everything the class has learned this past semester. Luke's class includes some gymnastics, but the focus of the class has been acquiring ball-handling skills. The class spent a month on soccer -- mostly dribbling the ball; a month on basketball, with an emphasis on the chest pass; and time on volleyball (with balloons), football, and bowling. Next week begins a new semester in which stick sports (i.e., hockey, tennis, and golf) will be emphasized. It has taken Luke a long time to embrace his Little Gym class -- he'd rather be home playing with Matchbox cars or Star Wars stuff, but he was excited to earn a medal and you can see how proud he is of himself in these clips from the big show.
First, the introduction of the players:
The uneven bars -- strictly gymnastics skills:
The balance beam, for basketball, volleyball, and football:
And last but not least, the mat, for soccer, bowling, and a bit more football:
The medal ceremony:
Two days after the show at Little Gym, one of our regular babysitters, Big Luke, came over. In a moment very telling of how proud Luke is of his new medal, he ran up to his room to retrieve it in order to show it off to Big Luke.
