For the second time in four years we had the pleasure of staying at Ken's partner's house on Squam Lake. The property is on a cove where boats are not allowed to produce any wake, so it's very quiet. And while you can see one neighbor's float, you can't see any of Michael's neighbors from his house or his dock, so you really do feel as though you are in the middle of the wilderness. The picture above is the bunk house where we slept. The kids thought the bunk beds were cool, but, boy, it's difficult to put clean sheets on a top bunk!
Michael's house has so much to offer. First, there's the trampoline that's built into the ground:
Then there's the zipline:
There's a dock from which you can see fish and turtles in the water. We tried fishing without any luck. Lots of birds come to pay a visit, including this family of ducks and this herron.
There's the float that you can swim out to from the dock and jump off of:
There are paddleboats, shaped like kayaks, which provide a better workout for the legs than you might think:
There's a boat:
And best of all there's a float that can be pulled by the boat:
Bryn said tubing was one of the Top 5 best things she's ever done. Her enthusiasm and daring to try new things prompted Luke to try, too.
We went tubing our second afternoon in Squam, just before dinner, and we had planned to go the next day and the day after as well, but instead we found ourselves in the ER the next morning with Bryn who was diagnosed with both swimmer's ear, which is an infection of the outer ear, as well as an internal ear infection. Poor thing. So we headed home a couple of days ahead of schedule. I can't believe, though, how much we managed to pack into two days!
