Our neighbor told us about a neat event at a farm near Ken's office. The event started at 5 pm and began with pumpkin carving. Bryn and Luke each designed their own pumpkins and Ken carved them. 
The jack-o-lanterns were placed in a line in the open field and were lit at dusk. 
We brought a blanket and a picnic dinner and drank warm cider and ate apple slices dipped in warm caramel. There was a large bonfire, and Ken roasted marshmallows for the rest of us. It was dark by 7, and a little hard keeping track of Bryn and Luke but overall a very fun event that I'd like to do again next year.
