Happy Halloween!

Halloween fell on a Monday this year, so we celebrated all weekend along. Bryn's class had its parade on Friday, and Bryn went as the Statue of Liberty.

Saturday we had a very unusual -- first in at least 40 years -- snowstorm! New York was especially hard hit -- 8 inches of a heavy, wet snow that downed tree branches and cut power so trick-or-treating was postponed a week. Here, we got about 3 inches, and the temperature had risen by Halloween so trick-or-treating was feasible without coats and was actually pleasant. During the snow fall, we went to the Germantown Cricket Club for a great Halloween event for the kids, complete with cupcake decorating and an entertaining magician. At the end of the magician's show, the kids paraded across the stage in the ballroom, and Luke was a big hit in his homemade Yoda costume (thanks, Nana), complete with gnarled three-fingered hands! Despite the inclimate weather, one of Luke's classmates hosted a Halloween party, and if we ever host our own Halloween party, we will copy their idea of filling a cauldron with lightly oiled spaghetti and creepy Halloween toys, such as gelatinous eyeballs and plastic cockroaches.
Monday morning was the parade at Luke's school:

Trick-or-treating lived up to its expectations. We started at Hannah's house with pizza, and Nama joined us, Hannah, new friends Ally and Libby Blackburn, and a couple of others as we hit most of Hathaway Lane and Penn Road. Bryn counted more than 90 pieces of candy in all.
