Happy 7th Birthday, Bryn!

Just as we celebrated Halloween all weekend long, so, too, did we celebrate Bryn's birthday. Bryn wanted to go somewhere special for her birthday, and her choice for dinner was Distrito, a very hip Mexican restaurant on Penn's campus. But it is too far from Ken's office to be a feasible week-night dinner option, so we instead talked her into going there for brunch on her actual birthday. Saturday brunch is not very busy, so we were able to get the prized table in an old Volkswagen bug.

Bryn shares her birthday with her good friend Ava, who had a birthday party the evening of the girls' actual birthday. So Bryn's was held the next day, on Sunday. We hosted a magician named Taddo at our house. In one of his first tricks, he cored an apple, which Luke held. Next, he had Bryn write her name on a yellow handkerchief, which he put in his hand, and then it magically appeared in the apple that Luke was holding.

He did another cool trick in which he put a balloon animal in a paper bag, popped the bag, and somehow removed the still-inflated balloon animal.
In his most elaborate trick, an adult wrote his name on a dollar bill, which he put in his own pocket. Taddo then had this Dad reach into a bag of oranges and pull one out. Taddo cut open the chosen orange only to reveal the same tightly rolled dollar bill in the center of the orange! In the finale, Bryn made a rabbit appear in a hat.
Taddo was a big hit, and Luke said he might like to have the same birthday party next year.
