I had the pleasure of taking a photography class to help me with my new camera. In one week's assignment we played with different shutter speeds. A slow shutter speed doesn't stop the action, so you get a blurry background. In some instances, the blurry background may help to contribute to a picture's ability to portray speed, as in this shot of Bryn on her scooter.
