Trip to Washington, DC
Over Presidents' Day weekend I took Bryn and Luke to Washington, DC. We spent the night at my Mom's house although she was in Florida at the time. The next day we had the most perfect day in Washington. As we drove into the city from the George Washington Parkway, we saw a helicopter that we thought was the President's, but then Ken explained that there is never just one presidential helicopter in the sky at a time. Nevertheless, the kids got a glimpse of the monuments -- Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument. We started off at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving where we enjoyed a 45-minute tour of where the nation's currency is printed. We learned that paper currency is printed not on paper but rather on a composite made of linen. We saw millions of dollars worth of hundred dollar bills, and it was staggering.
From there we moved our car closer to the White House for this photo op:
Then we walked to the Hard Rock Cafe. Along the way we passed Madame Trusseau's Wax Museum, and in honor of President's Day, Abraham Lincoln was sitting outside:

Across the street from the restaurant is Ford's Theater, where Lincoln was fatally wounded.
We had a gorgeous day for February -- mild although a bit windy. Drove home after lunch.
