We were allowed to bring our own food into the carnival, so I had packed sandwiches and fruit, but we indulged in a funnel cake (Bryn's first) and Luke got shaved ice. We wasted money on games like trying to knock down heavy bottles with a baseball, but Bryn and Luke said the rigged games were as much fun as the rides. While there, we spent an hour in the exhibition hall where there were contests in every category imaginable -- children's poetry writing; Lego scene building; quiche making. It's possible that we might be able to submit some of the kids' schoolwork next year, so I've made myself a note to check the categories next spring when entries are being accepted.

Marin County Fair
Since moving to Tiburon another one of our summer traditions has been going to the Marin County Fair over Fourth of July weekend. Bryn and Luke are now at the age that they want to ride only the thrill rides, most of which make a person dizzy and sick. So I was strictly a bystander.
