Today was Luke's second birthday. It's fun for me to reminisce about his birth, which is the single most exciting moment of my life. I will never, ever forget the surprise and excitement in Ken's voice when he proclaimed that we now had "a boy!"
Nama and Gran'pop came to town the day before, and we started the morning with a few presents from Mom and Dad

and a stuffed animal Honker from Bryn -- perhaps his favorite gift to date. Like last year, we had beautiful weather in the high 70s -- perfect for a party in a covered porch overlooking a playground.

Despite the beautiful weather, Luke chose to spend most of his time in the basement of the playhouse where there's a working traffic light and an assortment of scooters and tricycles to ride.
Luke blew out his candle without any trouble whatsoever,

and he couldn't wait to sink his teeth into a cupcake, which he'd been eyeing in the kitchen ever since I made them on Friday.

Half of the cupcakes had black frosting on them -- not something I'd do again as the black frosting seemed much more difficult to clean up. Delicious nonetheless, however.

In the afternoon Bryn had a second birthday party to go to for our friend Hannah Reed, who turned four on Friday. The party was held in a small, under-utilized park by the Wynnewood train station, and a storyteller engaged the kids in a fairytale adventure, complete with costumes,

makeup,

the Chicken Dance, and a scavenger hunt. Bryn lost interest when after three tries she failed to find the hidden treasures, so I told her we'd do a scavenger hunt for candy corns in the playroom one day after school.
