The Birthday Boy

Luke is 3!

Luke's birthday celebration started two days early when Nama arrived and Daddy returned from a week in Asia. The day before his birthday was his party at Little Gym, and Luke seemed to understand fully that it was his day. He ran around with more energy than I've ever witnessed -- running just to run.

The staff did a great job of interjecting activities, such as climbing a mountain made of mats, that differ from what he's exposed to at his weekly Little Gym class.

When it was time to sing, "Happy Birthday," Luke joined in the singing!

On his actual birthday, Luke helped me to bake cupcakes to bring in to his friends at school, and that evening, per his request, we ate at Ruby's Diner.

At his wellness visit the day after his birthday, the doctor said not to worry until age 8 about his enunciation of some words, especially those that start with the letter "s." (Luke has a tendency to drop his "S's," so he says, "'mell this," instead of "smell this.") Same goes for his use of pull-ups at night. The pediatrician said we're waiting for "sleep maturation," and that's not something that can be trained. Could take a year or more for him to wake up dry. He's 38 inches tall and weighs 37 lbs.

Unfortunately, Luke's had a low-grade fever the past couple of days, so we haven't yet had a chance to bring his cupcakes into school. Hopefully this Friday.
