Later in the afternoon we headed out to Haddonfield, NJ, where we attended the Vests' (college friend) annual pumpkin-carving party. So Ken carved two additional pumpkins, this time using outlines that the kids designed. Sadly, none of the four pumpkins that we've carved to date made it to Halloween as they tend to last a week at most, so we have one last pumpkin to carve on the 31st.

Boo at the Zoo
With the kids' swim instructor out of town, we took advantage of having a free Saturday morning by going to the zoo's annual Boo at the Zoo event. It was great! The kids wore their costumes and brought their candy bags, and at every major exhibit they were given a different type of Halloween candy. In the "treehouse" building, the kids participated in games and crafts. They both reached into a mystery box in an effort to pull out a plastic spider. Both Bryn and Luke pulled out other bugs initially, but when they finally found the spider, they got to pick out a plastic spider ring. Bryn made a spider bracelet by tracing her four fingers on a folded piece of paper.
While at the zoo, we also saw the baby kangaroo, who isn't so little anymore, and the baby giraffe, too.
Luke also liked watching the animals that were given pumpkins to play with. We're not sure if this jaguar wanted to eat the pumpkin or just play with it.
The zoo now offers Boo at the Zoo over two weekends leading up to Halloween, and Bryn and Luke have already said that they want to go again next year.
