Thanksgiving in Atlanta

The Saturday before Thanksgiving we flew to Atlanta to celebrate an early Thanksgiving with the Rowles family. We had a connecting flight on the way down, which made for an especially long travel day as the last leg was an hour late on account of a malfunctioning jetway. We went straight to bed after arriving at the Emory Conference Center, which is a really nice facility with a terrific all-you-can eat $12 breakfast buffet and a very nice pool and hot tub. Sam joined us for swimming in the morning before we headed to his house where the three cousins played really well together. The weather was in the low 70s, so we were able to go to the playground at Sam's school, which is within walking distance of his house, and the kids also had fun with super soaker water guns. Kristin single handedly prepared a feast for all of us and Paul's parents, too. The next morning we went to the Georgia Aquarium, which is the world's largest. We saw beluga whales, and an active octopus, which was my favorite exhibit. The aquarium was celebrating its fifth anniversary, and in one special activity that was being offered Bryn and Luke made penguin masks. One highlight was the penguin exhibit in which the kids could crawl through a tunnel that ran through the exhibit in order to get a closer look at the penguins. We also saw a whale shark and there was a large display of lion fish, which have invaded Georgia's waters. The kids spent the whole of the afternoon together at Sam's before heading back to the hotel for more swimming and a sleepover. Tuesday we ate at the Flying Biscuit before returning to Philadelphia in time for Nichole to prepare her first, overcooked turkey.
