Luke Turns Four!

Luke is now four!

The kids' school has asked parents to bring in less-caloric treats than cupcakes for birthdays, so we brought Jell-o jigglers in the shape of race cars into his classroom. He seemed very proud when everyone was singing Happy Birthday to him.
As he was a year ago, Luke is still obsessed with Matchbox cars, and almost all of his presents relate to this hobby -- a new car carrier; a Playmobil service station; a new race track; Matchbox junkyard; and a table that he can use for his cars with some welcomed storage drawers underneath.

Now an annual tradition, we went to Ruby's for dinner, although he didn't each much of his macaroni and cheese, so he may need to identify a different favorite restaurant for next year. Since he had ice cream at Ruby's, we didn't cut into the "four" cake until the next evening. The number cakes are a tradition started by Nana -- not the easiest tradition to uphold! We put so much red food coloring in the icing that I'm afraid it affected the taste, so half of the cake went uneaten. Next year's cake will be light blue.

Luke's birthday fell on a Tuesday this year, so his party wasn't until the weekend. See a subsequent post for the party details.
