The bathroom renovation is underway, but it feels more invasive than the kitchen project. Or perhaps we just don't remember that well what it was like to bring water to boil on a hot plate and drain pasta in a bath tub. When the demolition of the kids' bathroom was completed, two major problems were revealed. First, the floor joists were badly damaged -- they had been hacked at and cut into to make room for pipes and altogether compromised. So they needed to be bolstered. To this end, a temporary wall was put up in the dining room to provide support to the floor, and in removing some of the old joists, the kitchen ceiling incurred some damage as well. Second, a long cast iron pipe that ran across the ceiling of the kids' bathroom on its way to the third floor bathroom was showing signs of wear and needed to be replaced, too. To do so, a hole was cut in the wall of the guest bathroom to provide access the top of the pipe. So several rooms have been affected by the bathroom remodel -- more than we had ever imagined. No work has begun in the office as of yet, which is being used as a storage area for the contractors' countless tools.

Most of the plumbing has been roughed in at this stage, as has the electric, and drywall is scheduled for the end of this upcoming week.
