I'm trying something new this summer -- keeping Bryn home with me on one of the days that Luke's at school. Yesterday was our first mother-daughter day, although it was cut a bit short as I wanted to pick Luke up before naptime. I'm thrilled to report that Luke's continuing to adjust to school. Though he cried when I first left, I saw that by the time that I got back into the car, he had stopped crying, and his teacher was no longer holding him. When Bryn and I went to pick him up, his teacher, Ms. Amalla, said Luke had had a "great day." Amalla said that he finds transitions, such as going from the playground back inside, or vice versa, to be a bit difficult, and he apparently got very upset when paint got on his elephant lovey. But all in all, he did really well. Luke never tells the truth when I ask him whether he has a poopy diaper, so I don't know how much one can trust his answers to questions, but upon picking him up I asked him if he had had fun at school, and he said, "Dah" [yeah].
As for me and Bryn, we went to the hardware store to buy brushes and then to the grocery store to buy corn starch so that we could make sidwalk paint [equal parts water and cornstarch, with a splash of food coloring.] Bryn informed me that she was creating an "abstract painting," -- her words, which she learned from an episode of Caillou. The result follows.

Bryn and I then went to the new Chipotle Mexican Grill that opened near us in Ardmore. It's a great addition to the neighborhood -- very clean, and Bryn ate nearly half of a vegetarian burrito, and the rest she finished for dinner. I'm thrilled to take her here on Wednesdays, rather than McDonald's!
We returned to the sidewalk paint once Lukey was home, so he had a turn, too.

In a funny aside, Luke did not paint the flower to his left. A light rain Wednesday night didn't wash away our art, so then I panicked, thinking that I had stained the flagstone patio. Thankfully, the hose turned to "stream" and a little scrubbing lifted the paint up, but I told Bryn that next time we'll paint on the blacktop instead.
