Time with Bryn

The Tuesday after Christmas I took Bryn to see The Nutcracker at the Academy of Music. The performance was beautiful, but the story was very protracted, and the whole show, including intermission, was 2 hours and 15 minutes. Bryn told me afterwards that she liked better the very small ( just 6 dancers!), 45-minute version that she saw at school! She said she's not interested in going to the Nutcracker again next year, but she said she is interested in going to NY to see a show, so maybe that's something I can coordinate w/ Maritess. After the Nutcracker, on a freezing-cold day, we went to a new restaurant/chocolate cafe and had a late lunch and delicious hot chocolate. The next day we went to the National Constitution Center and saw a wonderful exhibit on Princess Diana. There were videos (no sound) in every room of the exhibit, so we saw Diana playing as a little girl about the same age as Bryn; the royal wedding with all of its pomp and circumstance; Diana riding in a water flume with her boys; Diana visiting AIDS patients and others who were hospitalized; and the funeral. I was really moved when I saw how Diana caressed the arms of the patients with whom she visited; she seemed, despite her life of inordinate privilege, like a very caring individual who died much, much too young (36). Bryn liked the exhibit, too - more than the Nutcracker! After the museum we ate lunch a few blocks away at Jones, and Bryn colored while she waited for her mac & cheese.
