As was our experience with Bryn two years ago, Luke has been reluctant to wear his Halloween costume. But thanks to the power of a candy corn, he wore his "spider backpack" to two Halloween parties today. The second was Narberth's annual Halloween parade, which draws hundreds of kids and their parents. Some of the costumes are incredibly creative; my favorite remains one I saw last year in which a mother wore a tailor-made kangaroo costume, complete with opening for her baby, or joey, carried in a Bjorn. The parade follows the lead of a fire truck, but concerned that the siren would sound, Luke was initially very upset and kept his hands over his ears for a good 10 minutes.

Upon turning onto the familiar main drag through Narberth, Luke became more comfortable, and once an onlooker doled out Tootsie pops, Luke joined Bryn in having a great time.

The parade ends each year on the basketball courts behind the Narberth playground; tables are set up with apple cider, ginger snaps, and goodie bags for all the kids. At this point, the sugar from Luke's largest-to-date lollipop started to kick in, and he became a dancing spider.
I hope this afternoon's Halloween-related activities have helped to ease Luke into tomorrow's festivities, which include a parade at school and, of course, trick-or-treating with Dad and Bryn.
